All this money is already transferred to support the Ukrainian Army and humanitarian aid for Ukrainians who were affected by the Russian attack.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your contributions and support!

If you are interested in continuing to support Ukraine, here are some Ukrainian-based organizations that have been working tirelessly supporting Ukraine.

Student Organized Blood Drive May 18th

The Great River School National Honor Society is excited to announce that we’ll be holding a blood drive this spring in collaboration with the American Red Cross! Blood drives are an easy and meaningful opportunity for healthy individuals to give blood to those in need. There are many benefits to donating blood. Firstly, the blood donated by just one person can change countless lives. Additionally, because there is testing that comes along with giving blood, this is a great opportunity to learn about your blood type, COVID antigen levels, and any blood disorder that you may have.

You’re eligible if you are 17+ or 16 y/o with caregiver consent and fit a few additional health criteria. If you’re at all interested, please fill out a quick interest form linked below.

For questions, reach out to Chloe at cgustafson@greatriverschool.org or another NHS member or see the FAQ linked below.

We can’t wait to see you there!

Seeking Crosswalk Volunteers

Looking to avoid the long pickup line? Remember that caregivers can pick up or drop off on the other side of Pierce Butler and have students utilize the pedestrian bridge to walk a short distance to school. Note - students should be dropped at Pierce Butler & Hamline and cross using the pedestrian crosswalk.

In order to best serve students at this crosswalk, parents have organized a parent/caregiver crossing volunteer group to help kids safely cross Pierce Butler. Get some volunteer hours in when you serve as a crossing guard at the Pierce Butler and Hamline Ave. intersection before or after school!

Sign up here - each month has a different tab on the upper left side.

We want to remind caregivers and students that car pick-up and drop-off should happen only on the south side of the school, off Energy Lane. Click here for a previous announcement about pick-up and drop-off.

NoMythic is Going to the Robotics World Championships

Written by Joseph Steinhauer:

NoMythic just went to Duluth for the Northern Lights regional competition. A lot happened, and we have some big news to share with you all.

Our robot performed well, and we scored in twelfth place by the time we were paired with other teams, when, with our alliance, we got to the quarterfinal matches!

The awards ceremony was very eventful. Phoebe Kirchner, our team captain, won the well-deserved Dean’s list finalist award! She was recognized for her commitment to creating a welcoming team environment and culture. We are so incredibly proud of her, and we would like to thank her for her incredible amount of work done to the team and its culture.

We are delighted to say that NoMythic will be going to the FIRST robotics world championships in Houston, Texas this year. We were awarded the Engineering Inspiration award, which gives us  the opportunity to go to worlds, with our entry fee paid for by NASA.

Though our entry fee is provided, we still have a lot of other things to account for as we prepare for our trip. Transportation, hotels and rooming, and food are all incredibly important things to consider, and all of the aforementioned cost money. All in all, we are expecting the trip will cost us around $27,000.

That’s why we’re asking for your help. Would you be willing to donate to the team to help us achieve our goal of going to worlds this year? You can donate to us by way of the “donate” tab on our website, or through our GoFundMe set up for this purpose (https://tinyurl.com/NoMythic2491.) No donation is too small or too large, and any amount of support, monetary or otherwise, helps us immensely both in our goal to go to Houston this year and our larger goal to grow future generations of passionate problem solvers.

We are also looking for support from sponsor companies. If you have a potential company that could sponsor us, please don’t hesitate to email Joseph Steinhauer at jsteinhauer@greatriverschool.org, Toby McAdams at tobymcadams@gmail.com, Michael Flood at mflood@greatriverschool.org, or the team email (2491nomythic@gmail.com) with the contact information for a representative of the company.

Again, we would like to thank you for your support of the team and its students, and we’re looking forward to telling you about our journey to world championships!
