Volunteer Opportunities at GRS

Great River School offers many opportunities to get involved in our community. We are always looking for wonderful community members willing to volunteer time and talent to Great River School.  If you are interested in any of the below volunteer opportunities, please contact office@greatriverschool.org.

*Please note: Because emails are encrypted, DO NOT send sensitive information to Great River School HR via email. It is best to print the forms and sign it and bring it with you on your first day of work. You may also make an appointment with Maiya me to come into the office to complete the paperwork prior to your start date. If for some reason you are unable to open or print these documents, I can also print them for you as well, let me know.

Elementary Volunteers

Elementary Going Outs - Chaperone

Adult Steps for Preparing to Chaperone a Going Out

• Get oriented to process at a Going Out Training

• Complete a background check form (every 2 years) and turn it into the GRS main office. These forms are available on the GRS Volunteer section of the website at https://www.greatriverschool.org/volunteer-positions

• Contact the main GRS office and ask for Jennifer Nelson at the front desk if you have questions about when your background check expires. 

• Share your contact information and availability using the Going out Availability Form or https://tinyurl.com/GoingOutsGRS

• Wait for students to contact you to schedule a Going Out.

• When students call, remember to write down the student names and classroom name

Great River Foundation Volunteer Positions

The Great River School Foundation is a 501c3 created to support the long-term financial needs of Great River School’s mission and seeks to create enduring support for students, faculty and the school’s urban Montessori learning environment.

Board Member (Parent, Teacher, Community Member)

The Great River School Board is the governing body of the school. We provide crucial oversight and guidance in the continuing operation of Great River School. Our work is especially important this spring as the Board guides the search for a new Head of School to help us continue thriving into the future.

Nutrition Program Volunteers

Our new School Food & Nutrition Programs would like to have volunteer helpers every day of the year. Providing one-on-one positive engagement with students during serving times can be important for making important lasting impressions.

Ultimate Frisbee Adult Support

We need parent support in 2021 more than ever! Since we have limited coaching staff this year, we need supervision and chaperones at games AND practices if we are going to proceed with a season. Anyone who agrees to sign up as coach/chaperone will need to complete a background check with USA Ultimate. Kate (Ultimate Coordinator) will follow up with you about how to fulfill requirements and scheduling, etc.
