What is the International Baccalaureate (IB) program?
Like Great River, the International Baccalaureate® (IB)’s mission is to “develop inquiring young people who help to create a more peaceful world.” Our holistic and globally minded IB program includes a collection of rigorous, college level courses where students engage in deep learning, independent projects, and collaborative seminars. All our IB courses carry the potential to earn college credit.
What makes IB at GRS unique?
We are IB for ALL!
No admissions requirements to our IB Diploma Program or courses.
All students engage in IB CAS via our special Wednesday Internships
Due to our unique schedule, we can provide a high amount of support and intervention..
Two IB Pathways for Students:
IB Diploma Program (IBDP):
Students who pursue the IB Diploma at GRS take courses from six core subjects — English, Spanish, Global Politics, Science, Math, and either Music, Theatre or Visual Arts. Students must also enroll in three semesters of the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course, complete Creativity-Action-Service (CAS) activities, and write a research essay on a topic of their choice of 3,000 to 4,000 words called the Extended Essay.
Individual IB Courses & exams:
Students who pursue this route engage in a combination of IB courses and non-IB course electives. This route is free of IB Diploma curriculum requirements, and offers schedule flexibility. All students take IB Math, IB Literature, IB Science and CAS; the vast majority take IB Global Politics. Students may choose to enroll in additional IB electives or non-IB electives such as chamber choir, chemistry, or film studies. All students are eligible to take the IB course exams for possible college credit.
