Great River School is celebrating 20 years!

In September 2004, Great River School was established with the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and support from the Center for School CHange at the University of Minnesota. 77 students were enrolled and . Today, Great River has over 700 students enrolled between 1st and 12th grades!

Key Experiences augment the classroom experience through travel, theatre, work in the natural world and immersion studies. These unique experiences help students practice independence, learn self-confidence, and deepen relationships with their community.

Our students came back this month from Key Experiences with a renewed sense of self, having learned some new skills, and made some new friends.
